Evergreen Winter Kill

RhodieWe are seeing a rare phenomenon recently that is affecting decades old established broadleaf evergreens. Due to the extended winter-like weather the ground is not thawing. The tops of shrubs are breaking dormancy and seeking water, but the roots are still in frozen ground and can’t access water. Coupled with the very long drought we had last fall these old shrubs are literally dying of thirst.  Let’s hope the ground thaws soon!

Although the leaves may appear completely dead, there may still be life in the wood.  So don’t cut anything yet, your plant may revive.  If you have questions, we are happy to come help.  Just give us a call.
